In 17 October 1877, sir James Pendergast's influenced the waitangi treaty. James was the third chief justice of new zealand and he wasn't a very nice one. He wasn't fair with the maori community he didn't agree with the maoris they said that their ancestors were savages and didn't know what they were getting into, but James didn't care he said it was sign and that's that and he didn't let schools be built and was fight to get rid of the maori culture
